The Employment Service came into existence in India under the stress of postwar demobilization. The Employment Service is now the joint concern of the Central and State Governments. The Director General of Employment & Training at the apex of the organization at national level and Director Employment & Craftsmen Training is at the apex of the organization at the State level. Directorate of Employment & Craftsmen Training under the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Govt. of Assam has three wings namely:
- Craftsmen Training
- Apprenticeship Training and
- Employment Service Scheme
