World Bank Assisted Rural Water Supply & Sanitation Project

Based on the parameters of piped water supply and household water connection, GOI identified Assam,

Based on the parameters of piped water supply and household water connection, GOI identified Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand and U.P. as the four most lagging states in the country.

To alleviate backwardness in water supply & sanitation sector, GOI approached the World Bank support in Rural Water Supply & Sanitation Project (RWSSP) covering these four states. Accordingly 1 bn dollar project has been devised with a share of US $500 million each on GOI and the World Bank. Out of the Government of India Share, Corresponding State Share would be borne by the respective share.

Within the scope of the project, Assam has undertaken seven Large Multi-Village Schemes (LMVS) covering part of the districts of Kamrup (M), Jorhat, Hailakandi, Sonitpur,Sivasagar, Morigaon and Bangaigaon of which first three districts are taken up in the first phase which includes Water Supply, Sanitation, SLWM with total beneficiary participation.
